What are the different types Operating System?

Types of Operating Systems

When we are talking about operating systems we are usually talking about Windows or Linux. There are many other OS, but they have not yet reached the same level as the other two. In fact, even though Microsoft is releasing their own version of an operating system each year, the others continue to be based on what Windows is offering.

What are different types of operating systems?

First off, you have your hardware which can either be a desktop PC or laptop. Depending on what type of computer you are looking at, there will be an operating system that is appropriate for it. If you want to use a traditional computer that is connected to the internet then you will need Windows. If you use a cell phone then you can use either Windows Mobile or Symbian OS. Then there is the software side of things. This is the most flexible part of the operating system. It allows you to do many different things including installing other applications as well as running your own. Each operating system comes with a series of pre-installed tools that allow you to build, install and run the programs that you need.

The most common devices are your keyboard, mouse and a monitor. These are all standard parts of what an operating system provides. However, what different types of operating systems offer is the ability to connect your printer to your computer and allow you to send it print jobs directly to a tesco or inkjet printer. Then you have the data side of things. With most types of operating systems you can access a lot more information on your computer than what was used a few short years ago. This is especially true with the introduction of USB-based drives. File sharing is becoming even easier with the addition of such peripheral devices as these.

More comfortable types of operating systems

When you really stop and think about it, the most important feature of any operating system really has to do with ease of use. In order to use a computer effectively, you have to be comfortable using it. It should be intuitive to use and perform all of the necessary functions. What operating systems do well in this area are Windows and Linux. However, there are now also a couple of choices here. There are the Mac OS X and the Windows XP operating system. As with most things though, Macs offer a slightly better version for those of us who like to use it more often than others. In addition to that, when we talk about features a lot of the Macs have, they do not come cheap. So while it is definitely an attractive option, I am not sure that you can justify choosing the Mac operating system over any other. In fact, a Mac might actually cause a drop in your overall computer usage. It might just be a price versus value issue in the end. Linux has also recently been getting some positive buzz. For those of you who are not familiar with the workings of Linux, it is based on a common software program that is called Unix. In short, it is a common platform that is used in computers and servers around the world. In the end, what are the different types of operating systems are a matter of personal choice.

So which operating system should you choose?

I would say the one that is best suited to your needs and tastes. Of course, you should consider the fact that many different types of people use and will be interested in the different types of computer operating systems. The bottom line though is that one is going to be best for you.

One good thing about the Linux OS is that it is free to download and use. However, you may have to meet certain requirements in order to use Linux. These include being a registered member of your network and having a valid email address. For many this is a deal breaker though as it makes the Linux OS much less appealing than Microsoft. If you are one of these people then it might be a good idea to look for another type of software or find another home for your computer.
There are also many other operating systems out there. They include Mac OS, Windows, Solaris, Bracknell, AIX, IBM OS, AIOS, HPCPI, Linux, and so many others. All of these have their own strengths and weaknesses. Each operating system also has a favorite hardware manufacturer. If your hardware is compatible with a given operating system then you should be able to have an effective operating system.
